PH COVID tally tops 93,000 as 4,000 new infections recorded
The Philippines reported another highest single-day jump in its COVID-19 cases as over 4,000 new infections were confirmed on Friday, taking the caseload to more than 93,000.
The country’s confirmed cases is now at 93,354 after 4,063 more people were confirmed to have caught the COVID-19. This beat the previous record of 3,954 cases reported on Thursday. The number of active cases is at 26,153.
The country, meanwhile, ranked second among the 10 member-states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Indonesia is in the first spot with 106,336 confirmed infections.
The death toll also climbed to 2,023 as 23 new fatalities were reported. The recoveries, however, increased to 65,178 after 165 more patients have been tagged as recovered.
“There were 83 duplicates that were removed from the total case count. Of these, 42 recovered cases have been removed,” the DoH noted.
“These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” it added.
With the current COVID-19 figures, the DoH “acknowledge the initial challenges of mounting our response strategy against COVID in the beginning of this pandemic.”
The DoH said that those challenges were caused by “multitude of factors” that were beyond their control such as global shortages of reagents and equipment “which made it challenging to set up testing laboratories.”
“The challenges we faced in the early part of this fight have equipped us and provided insight on how to better handle similar challenges that came after, and are to come in the future,” it said.
“This is why instead of looking back at what we could have done, we refocus our efforts to ensure that we are constantly adapting our strategies based on scientific evidence,” it added.
The country has conducted a total of 1,462,603 COVID-19 tests to 1,365,717 individuals as of July 29. There are now 95 laboratories that are accredited to conduct a coronavirus test, the DoH said.
