Pasig supermarket reopens 'conditionally'

The Pasig City government has “conditionally” allowed the reopening of a supermarket chain whose operations were earlier suspended for violating social distancing protocols.

Mayor Vico Sotto said the local government has decided to lift the temporary suspension on Landers Superstore in Barangay Ugong after it submitted an “action plan” detailing proposed modification in its protocols and safety measures.

“After evaluation of the detailed ‘Action Plan’ submitted to us Thursday morning, we have decided to conditionally allow Landers to open,” Sotto said in a Twitter post.

“But if they fail to implement any part of the said action plan, we will suspend them again,” he warned.

In its action plan, the mayor said Landers will limit the number of customers allowed in the grocery, implement a foot traffic scheme where shoppers have to observe a one-way scheme, and deployment of staff that will monitor each aisle.

On July 21, the local government temporarily suspended the operations of Landers after it was found to have failed to properly implement social distancing.

“Unemployment has rise dramatically and we want businesses to be able to operate smoothly and give jobs to Pasigueños,” Sotto said.

“However, they must do so while implementing health/safety standards that will prevent the spread of COVID-19,” he added.
