Partial operation resumes at NAIA

By MB Online The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) announced on Monday partial resumption of operations after being shut overnight due to ashfall from Taal Volcano. MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO (MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) The airport reopened departures starting from 10 a.m. and for arrivals by 12 p.m., Monday, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said in a joint statement. It added that opening times will be subject to terminal capacity of the four NAIA Terminals and airline consent. “Under the situation, separation time between flights will be longer, in order to give MIAA and CAAP better capability to manage terminal and runway capacities,” the MIAA and CAAP stated. “Priority will be given to departure flights, so that the NAIA ramps may be cleared of planes parked thereat since last night. Second priority will be given to regular scheduled flights for today,” it added. It said that this arrangement will give both MIAA and CAAP better capability to allocate slots. MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal appealed to passengers to continue coordinating with the airlines to confirm their updated flight schedules. “We request the passengers to make sure that their flights can leave before proceeding to the airport,” Monreal said. MIAA and CAAP both urged airline operators to give their passengers as much information available for sharing. “Airlines were also strictly advised to submit realistic departure schedules owing to the need to inform passengers, assign flight crew and aircraft dispatch,” it stated.
