Parañaque gov't distributes college educational financial assistance

The Parañaque City government distributed educational financial assistance to 3,472 college students from District 1 and 2 on Tuesday, March 28, to Wednesday, March 29 at the Parañaque City Sports Complex in Barangay San Antonio.Â

Mayor Eric Olivarez said a total of 1,412 students in the first district received their financial assistance on March 28.

From the total 1,412 students, 671 students with grades of 81 up to 86 percent received P3,500.Â
P5,000 was each given to 741 students with grades that are 87 percent and above.Â
Meanwhile, the distribution of financial assistance to 2,060 students from District 2 was held on March 29. From 2,060 students, 998 received P3,500 and 1,062 students got P5,000.Â

The mayor vowed to the students that the city government will help them find a job after they graduate. Employment assistance to fresh graduates in the city is part of his priority agenda.

Olivarez, aside from being a registered nurse, is also a professor and educator who has wanted to boost the quality of education in the city.

Based on a city ordinance, 40 percent of the workforce of companies within the city must be a Parañaque resident,, he said.

The mayor added that the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), headed by Atty. Melanie Soriano-Malaya and Public Employment Service Office (PESO), is conducting monitoring operations to ensure companies' compliance to this citywide policy.Â
