By Jean Fernando The Parañaque City government will distribute 100,000 relief goods on Saturday (March 21) to the city's most vulnerable residents as the country fights to stem the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Parañaque City Logo (Official Website / MANILA BULLETIN) According the city's Public Information Officer Mar Jimenez, Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the city government's is prioritizing the distribution of relief goods to 14,000 vulnerable sectors, among them transport groups including tricycle and pedicab drivers, jeepney drivers, UV Express drivers, vendors and those whose jobs are 'no work no pay.' Jimenez said the city's relief package is good for one week, and the food packages will be distributed weekly for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine over Luzon. He said each relief package contains three kilos of rice, instant noodles, water, and six different kinds of canned goods. The PIO chief added that the relief packs will be distributed on a house-to-house basis, and police will accompany them to ensure smooth distribution. When asked about the imposition of the 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew, Jimenez said they were practicing maximum tolerance, but because some continued to violate the curfew hour, Olivarez has ordered the police to arrest the violators and file cases against them if necessary. He said that for the first offense, Olivarez told the police to reprimand the violators, and for continuous violations, those arrested will face charges of disobedience to person in authority. The PIO chief added that they have barkers roaming around the city to remind city residents to stay indoors unless they have urgent reasons for venturing out. (Jean Fernando)
