Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar also urged the public to take safety precautions amid the health hazards posed by the ash column spewed by the restive volcano.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has raised Alert Level 4 over Taal Volcano that warned about the possible hazardous explosive eruption "within hours to days," Andanar said.
"In line with this, we advise the residents of Taal Volcano Island and towns within the 14-kilometer radius of the Taal main crater, to which PHIVOLCS is recommending total evacuation, to remain vigilant and be alert about the developments of the situation around them as volcanic tremors and earthquakes were also recorded," he said in a statement Sunday night.
"We also ask them to give their full cooperation to the government agencies working hard to bring them to safety and to take the necessary precautions against the health hazards posed by the ash plumes," he added.
As the volcano sent ash falling on areas as far as Quezon City, Andanar said the public should "safeguard themselves against its ill effects."
Taal Volcano, located in Batangas, has showed signs of increased volcanic activity as it spewed an ash column Sunday. Alert level has been raised prompting some residents in nearby areas to evacuate.
President Duterte earlier ordered authorities to ensure the safety of the people from the volcanic activity.
"Be assured that the President has already given orders to make sure that those who are affected be taken out of the danger zone and that coordination with the provincial government has been made to ensure that evacuation will proceed without a hitch and the needs of the evacuees will be attended to," Andanar said.
He said the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) has activated its Laging Handa operations to keep the public updated of developments through government media.
With the latest natural calamity, Andanar also appealed to the public to lend assistance to others in need.
"At this urgent and critical situation, we call on those affected to heed the orders of their respective LGUs, and we ask others to provide a helping hand and be of service to their fellowmen who are in need. Let us work together so that problems and casualties can be prevented," he said.
