This was disclosed by the Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, saying there is a total 7, 094, 165 affected students in the National Capital Region (NCR), Region III, Region IV-A, and Region IV-B.
Classes have been suspended because of the hazard posed by Taal’s ashfall to students.
Based on DepEd’s data as of Jan. 15, 2020, a total of 57
school divisions have been affected by the volcano’s activities.
A total of 7, 187 families or 34, 199 individuals are currently taking refuge at 992 classrooms being used as evacuation sites, the Education Department said in its latest report.
Authorities have been busy evacuating residents in areas affected by the eruption.
DepEd said three more school divisions had to suspend classes on Wednesday in Region IV-A as there are now 19 divisions affected there.
On Tuesday, DepEd reported that the area with the most affected students was Region III with 2, 347, 281 affected learners in 20 school divisions.
The region with the least number affected students was Region IV-B with only 166, 171 affected learners at 411 schools.
Earlier, DepEd Undersecretary for Administration Alain Pascua advised schools within the permanent danger zones and high-risk barangays to observe precautionary measures.
He advised principals, teachers and other school personnel to use N95 respiratory masks or damp cloth or towel or 2 surgical masks with two layers of tissue in between; wear hat, long sleeves, and long pants; and wear eye glasses or goggles to protect their eyes from ashfall.
“If safe to do so, remove accumulated ashfall in the roofs and gutters regularly to prevent damage. After removing ash, clean the roof and gutter with water to prevent corrosion,” his memorandum stated.
