Instead, the OSG announced on Tuesday, March 17, that it was “implementing a work from home arrangement for all its employees.”
The OSG explained the move was made in line with President Duterte’s declaration to impose a Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
“Hence, please be advised that the OSG premises are closed and will be unable to receive documents during the duration of the quarantine period,” the OSG said.
“The OSG shall begin receiving and processing documents once the quarantine is lifted,” it added.
Duterte imposed the Luzon-wide community quarantine to keep people inside their homes, and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On March 13, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra issued a circular, ordering work stoppage at the Department of Justice (DOJ) main office in Manila, as well as prosecution offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) from March 15 up to April 12.
Among his directives in the circular, Guevarra said the DOJ and prosecution offices will only maintain skeletal staff, while, other officers and personnel will be allowed to work from home.
The Secretary also urged the DOJ’s attached agencies “to adopt these rules for their own operations, or adopt and implement their own rules as may be appropriate for the continuous delivery of service and efficient discharge of official functions.”
The OSG is an agency attached under the DOJ.
