Original image of Our Lady of La Naval finally comes home to Intramuros

By Leslie Ann Aquino The original image of the Our Lady of La Naval will come home to Intramuros, Manila on Friday (Jan. 24), announced the Manila Cathedral in a Facebook post inviting the faithful to witness the visit of the image to the cathedral and its procession around Intramuros. "Together, let us pray for her maternal protection for our country." A welcome Mass will be held at the cathedral at 3 p.m. to be led by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle. The procession will start at 5 p.m. The Manila Cathedral also posted on social media a photo of the last grand procession of the image in Intramuros in 1941. The caption states that the photo was taken before the destruction of the area in World War II. The Nuestra Señora del Rosario de La Naval is one of the honored Filipino Marian devotional images at the Manila Cathedral. The Our Lady of La Naval was depicted by Filipino artist Galo Ocampo in one of the stained glass panels located on the apse of the left transept of the Cathedral. The Intramuros Administration posted information that because of the destruction of the original church in Intramuros after the Second World War, the image was temporarily housed at the University of Santo Tomas. In 1954 it was enshrined at Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City. The image, which was given as a gift to the Dominican fathers, is being brought to procession in Quezon City every second Sunday of October during the Feast of La Naval.
