Number coding suspended indefinitely due to 'community quarantine' --- MMDA

By Jel Santos The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday has indefinitely suspended the number coding scheme for private and public vehicles following President Duterte’s order placing Metro Manila under a "community quarantine." BUMPER-TO-BUMPER – This traffic situation on EDSA has become a normal scene that has prompted the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to temporarily suspend the window hours in its number-coding scheme on the major thoroughfare in order to decongest the roads in the metropolis. MMDA General Manager Thomas Orbos said the measure will be implemented from October 31 to January 31, 2017. She said the suspension will be indefinite as the agency and other concerned departments will have to assess the situation on a day-to-day basis. "We will announce if the number coding scheme will be imposed again," Pialago added. President Duterte on Thursday night raised the country’s alert level to Code Red Level 2 due to the reported community transmission of the COVID-19. Duterte also suspended land, air, and sea travel to and from Metro Manila from March 15 to April 14, 2020.
