NPA leader arrested in Ilocos Sur

CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur – Authorities arrested a New People’s Army (NPA) leader wanted for murder and frustrated murder in Barangay Macabiag, Sinait, Ilocos Sur on Sunday, March 26. Col. Marlo A. Castillo, Ilocos Sur police director, identified the communist guerrilla as Casimiro Binayon, alias “Rigor” and “Peter.” Binayon was a member of the executive committee of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee and a former secretary of the dismantled Komiteng Larangang Guerrilla Ifugao. Major Gen. Andrew D. Costelo, Army 7th Infantry Division commander, lauded the arrest of the NPA leader made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Army and police with the support of the community. Costelo said they would intensify law enforcement support operations with police counterparts to dismantle the remaining NPA groups to protect the people.
