Murder, other high-profile crimes down by nearly 78% in Mimaropa

High-profile crimes in the Mimaropa region have declined by almost 78 percent in the past seven days,  with the regional police force attributing it to aggressive anti-crime measures that include police visibility and community interventions. Police Brig. Gen. Joel Doria, director of the Police Regional Office 4B, said the 77.78 percent decline was recorded on the eight focus crimes composed of murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, theft, robbery, carnapping, and stealing of motorcycles, or what the police refers to as motornapping. “Only 6 crime incidents were recorded in the said period compared to the 27 of the previous year, a decrease by 77.78 percent,” said Doria, adding that the data were recorded from March 21 to 27 this year. The reduction in crime, he said, was also reflected in the crime volume wherein only 66 incidents were recorded last week compared to 110 in the same period last year, or a reduction of 40 percent. For non-index crimes such as violation of special laws, Doria said they also dropped by 40 percent, from 55 to 33. “Despite this success, we will remain steadfast and committed in our pursuit to greater heights of performance in ensuring the safety and security of the community with disciplined and more trusted police service, while fostering stronger ties with communities and stakeholders in the region,” said Doria. Doria assumed the leadership of the PRO4B on March 21 in the recent revamp in the Philippine National Police. PRO4B covers the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan. During his assumption, Doria ordered all police commanders to maximize police visibility and strengthen cooperation with the community as part of the strategic crime-fighting measures.
