ILOILO CITY—The strict lockdown at the Iloilo City Fish Port has been extended after 26 other persons were infected with coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“The lockdown will be extended for another three days,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas in a statement Wednesday, August 5.
The Iloilo City government initially ordered the strict lockdown of the fish port, which is a major fish trading hub in Western Visayas, last August 2 following the positive COVID-19 results of three workers, including a man who died.
The 26 new COVID-19 cases included a security guard and close contacts.
Treñas also ordered the strict lockdown of Pala-Pala 1, Pala-Pala 2, Tanza Baybay, and North Baluarte villages starting Thursday, August 6.
The city government also shut down the Iloilo Terminal Market, a major trading hub, for 72 hours to conduct thorough disinfection.
Treñas is also considering the lockdown of Calumpang and Simon Ledesma villages if more COVID-19 cases will be recorded.
Meanwhile, Treñas also announced that one of the call centers in the city had two additional cases as well as four cases linked to a private hospital.
