The Manila Health Department (MHD) said on Monday there is no confirmed case of novel Coronavirus (nCov) in Manila.
The MHD made the statement after unverified information circulated online involving a Chinese patient at the Metropolitan Hospital in Tondo, Manila.
Manila City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan identified the Chinese national as a 27-year-old male who was working at the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO).
Pangan said the POGO worker was hospitalized at Metropolitan Hospital last Saturday due to fever and cough. The POGO worker, from Hubei, China, arrived in the country last Jan. 8, 2020
"MHD Surveillance Team, in coordination with Department of Health (DOH) surveillance, and as per investigation, patient has fever and cough but negative on history of travel to Wuhan, China, and no history of exposure to a host or positive case," Pangan said in his report to the Manila Mayor “Isko” Moreno Domagoso.
The Health Officer said the Chinese national was diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia.
"As of the moment, the patient is well and does not have fever," the City Health Officer said.
Pangan said the MHD is intensifying its information drive in public schools and barangays regarding precautions on stopping transmission of the coronavirus.
The Manila Mayor has called on the public to avoid sharing unverified information to avoid worsening the public’s anxiety.
Domagoso urged the public to avoid panicking amid the scare. He also stressed that they should avoid sharing unverified information.
He encouraged all citizens to immediately proceed to the nearest clinic or health center if they feel they are suffering from symptoms of the virus.
"Hindi ikinikibit-balikat ang sitwasyong ito. Be vigilant. Huwag kayong maiilang. Huwag muna masyadong mag-alala. Tayo po ay makinig sa mga lathalain, panawagan ng mga tamang tao at ahensya ng gobyerno," Domagoso said.
Meanwhile, several Chinese schools in Metro Manila suspended their classes on Monday as a precaution against the coronavirus.
