By Jel Santos An impounding vehicle will be deployed by the local government of Makati City to rescue animals in Bauan, Batangas. Earlier, the local government deployed rescue and disaster response equipment to Batangas to help families affected by Taal Volcano’s eruption. Makati Mayor Abby Binay (My Makati / MANILA BULLETIN) Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay said the city will dispatch an impounding vehicle to Bauan, Batangas this Sunday together with some personnel of the city Veterinary Services Department (VSD) who will hand over dog and cat food, vitamins, antibiotics, and antiseptic solutions to the Batangas Provincial Veterinary Office. “It is important to save our pets and other animals during disasters because they are also part of our families,” she said in a statement. Makati VSD chief Dr. Ma. Katherina Mangahas said the impounding vehicle can cater 24 medium-sized dogs as it has eight cages. After photos and videos of animals covered in ash circulated on social media, netizens have expressed concern over the animals left near the Taal Volcano. Recently, Binay ordered the deployment of Makati’s disaster response vehicles and equipment to Bauan to aid thousands of evacuees affected by the ongoing eruption of Taal Volcano. According to her, the city’s Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has designated a composite team to handle the transport of a super tanker, a chemical fire truck, two penetrator fire trucks, two advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) vehicles, a mobile clinic, a mobile shower and portalet, a vacuum tanker, two mobile kitchens, and 500 jerry cans to Bauan. Also, the local government said 1,000 blankets, pails, and dippers will also be sent as her personal donation to the victims.
