LTFRB reminds PUV operators to observe health precautionary measures

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has reiterated its reminder to all public utility vehicle (PUV) operators to strictly observe preventive measures against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) following the rise of confirmed cases in the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, the LTFRB reminded all franchise holders to comply with the agency's Memorandum Circular 2020-005 issued last month that mandates all PUV drivers and conductors to wear face masks "at all times while on duty."
The agency also ordered all terminal operators to ensure proper sanitation and cleanliness on their premises, as well as to provide face masks and disinfectant or sanitizer dispensers for free use of passengers.
All public transport providers were urged by the LTFRB to use "hospital-grade disinfectants" to sanitize their units prior and after deployment, while passengers were asked to also disinfect their seats before and after use.
"Be very wary of anyone manifesting symptoms of infection, work with health authorities by reporting suspected cases, and avoid overcrowding in public buses," the agency added.
The LTFRB also urged the public to know how DOH screens suspected cases by referring to the Decision Tool released by the department, which can be accessed on the agency's Facebook page.
"The Board calls out to all drivers and operators to be reminded of their responsibility to provide a safe and reliable public transportation system to the riding public – now, more than ever," the LTFRB said.
Last Sunday, President Duterte declared a state of public health emergency following confirmation by the Department of Health (DOH) of a tenth COVID-19 case in the Philippines.
Under the declaration, all government agencies and local government units are enjoined to render full assistance and cooperation in the mobilization of necessary resources to contain the threat of the disease.
