Las Piñas LGU holds health and wellness program, mega job fair
The Las Piñas City government announced that a total of 700 residents joined the health and wellness program conducted by the City Health Office (CHO) on March 27 as part of the celebration of the city’s 26th cityhood and 116th founding anniversary.
Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the CHO team, led by Dr. Julie Gonzales, conducted a health and wellness program at the Verdant covered court. They gave free services such as laboratory tests on FBS (fasting blood sugar) and cholesterol, blood typing, HIV screening, and a program focusing on nutrition.
Among the 700 residents who attended the health and wellness program, 500 were senior citizens who availed of the pneumonia vaccine, and 100 attended the family planning.
Aguilar said the CHO also offered progestin implants, which is a method of placing a small, soft piece of plastic that releases hormones called progestogen under the skin of a woman’s upper arm. The implant works by stopping woman’s ovaries from releasing eggs.
The mayor added that the dental bus of the city government was deployed at the activity, providing dental services such as oral examination, and prophylaxis. Oral health kits were also given to the participants.
Dr. Gonzales said the health and wellness program was attended by eight doctors, 10 nurses and eight midwives.
Gonzales added that the CHO conducted free x-ray services at the City Hall ground, and 200 residents were given check-ups.
She explained that those who received positive results in their diagnosis from tuberculosis and sputum examination were immediately given early treatment.
The mayor said the city government simultaneously conducted the cityhood mega job fair held at the ground floor atrium of Robinson’s Palace.
Aguilar said 19 companies set up booths for 278 applicants, 34 of them were hired on the spot.
She said the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Social Security System (SSS), Philhealth, Pag-IBIG, Overseas Worker Welfare and Administration (OWWA), and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) also joined the mega job fair.
