Senator Panfilo M. Lacson lauded on Saturrday the lifting by the administration of a travel ban to and from Taiwan because it has no basis other than political, and would cause thousands of Filipino workers to suffer.
Sen. Panfilo Lacson
(Senate of the Philippines / MANILA BULLETIN) "Look, 154,000 ang ating manggagawa sa Taiwan, 18 lang ang reported coronavirus cases sa Taiwan, among its 23 million people. Walang health reason para mag-impose tayo ng travel ban against Taiwan, so I think ill-advised in the first place ang ginawang travel ban kasi ang magsa-suffer, ang mga kababayan nating naroon,’’ he said. (Look, there are 154,000 Filipino workers in Taiwan , and only 18 coronavirus cases among its 23 million population were reported. So I think the travel ban was ill-advised in the first place because the ones who will suffer from it are our countrymen working there.) Lacson said the lesson learned from the lifting of the Taiwan travel ban was that the President accepts rational advice from public opinion that affects public welfare. "Mabuti rin hindi nagtagal ang travel ban. Kung hindi, baka nagsagawa rin ng retaliatory act ang Taiwan, 'di natin alam yan,’’ he added. (It is good the travel ban did not last long. If it had, Taiwan might have made a retaliatory act, we don’t know.)
