Implementation of curfew depends on ordinances – Malaya

(DILG 10 via PIA / MANILA BULLETIN) DILG Undersecretary and Spokesman Jonathan Malaya said the Metro Manila mayors agreed to pass ordinances in their respective turfs that will legalize the imposition of the 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew hours recommended by the Metro Manila Council in a resolution passed on Saturday. In the resolution, all 17 Metro Manila mayors agreed to impose curfew from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. On the basis of the resolution, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) had earlier announced that it would impose curfew in Metro Manila to control the spread of COVID-19. While curfew violators would not be arrested, Malaya said they will be told why the curfew hours are being implemented. Malaya said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will set up checkpoints starting today, March 15, in all exit and entry points of Metro Manila to restrict the movement of the public in the metropolis. He added that the move is a measure requested and approved by the Metro Manila mayors.
