Iloilo City imposes stricter measures to arrest spread of COVID-19

ILOILO CITY – With the rising number of clustered cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in this city, the Iloilo City government is set to re-impose strict measures that aims to curb the spread of the viral disease in communities.

A curfew will be implemented starting Friday while the city government will no longer accept any new returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

“Cases are going up during this period and I want our personnel to focus on the problem,” said

Mayor Jerry Treñas in a statement Thursday, August 6.

Curfew hours will be at 8p.m. to 4 a.m., and this supplements the August 4 order of Treñas to reinstate the liquor ban.

This came as 29 new COVID-19 cases emerged at the Iloilo City Fish Port, and increased the total number of COVID-19 infections to 55 cases.

The positive cases at the fish port also caused the strict lockdown of four barangays (villages): Pala-Pala 1, Pala-Pala 2, North Baluarte, and Tanza Baybay.

Over the past week, there were also several cases of local transmissions, including newer positive cases at a call center company and a private hospital.

Treñas, himself, is also under self-imposed quarantine after two executives, who flew in from Metro Manila came to his office, and later tested positive for COVID-19.
