ICYDK: Kylie Verzosa's hot pink dress is inspired by 'The Birth of Venus' art
Fashion designer Mark Bumgarner creates a dress fit for a goddess
By John Legaspi
For the longest time, iconic artworks have been the source of inspiration for many fashion designers. Think of Yves Saint Laurent’s The Mondrian dress, Versace’s pop art fashion, and our very own Michael Cinco and his couture collection in homage to Gustav Klimt, among others. Fashion imbued with the spirit of art takes dressing to a whole new level. The latest to showcase a piece that gives a nod to a famous masterpiece is Filipino fashion designer Mark Bumgarner.
For the premiere night of ‘Baby Boy, Baby Girl’ movie, Mark dressed its lead Kylie Verzosa in a hot pink two-piece ensemble inspired by Sandro Botticelli’s painting “The Birth of Venus.” The look was romantic, featuring a ruched bustier with a sweetheart neckline paired with a scallop shell-like structural design. Stylist Perry Tabora finished the look with jewelry pieces courtesy of Luna by Drake Dustin, making the former Miss International a true “screen siren.”
