CAVITE – A female graduating student was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside her dormitory room in Dasmariñas City on March 28. The victim was identified as Queen Leanne Daguinsin, a 24-year-old Computer Science student at De La Salle University–Dasmariñas (DLSU-D). Dasmariñas City Police Station (CPS) acting Chief Lt. Col. Juan Oruga Jr. told the Manila Bulletin that the dormitory’s staff did not see the victim go out of her room throughout the day on March 28, so they assumed that she was either attending online classes or had already gone to school. “Tumawag na nga po 'yung pamilya na hindi rin nasagot sa tawag, kaya po na-alarma siya, kaya ginawan po nila nang paraan na makita ang loob ng kanyang kuwarto (The victim's family called because she was not picking up the phone, so the staff was alarmed and made a way to see what is going on inside her room),” Oruga said in a phone interview on Thursday, March 30. The victim sustained a total of 14 stab wounds, according to the autopsy report. Police said there is no indication of rape. Authorities are looking at robbery as a possible motive for the crime, with CCTV footage showing a man walking away from the dormitory holding an item that has yet to be identified.

Heightened security, appeal for justice

In an official statement released on March 29, DLSU-D President Br. Francisco "Sockie" de la Rosa VI FSC said they are working closely with Daguinsin’s family and the authorities in bringing justice for the victim. The university will also collaborate with the local government unit to conduct thorough inspections of dormitories near the campus. The DLSU-D community is set to hold a Prayer Vigil for Justice in front of the campus at 5:00 p.m. on March 30 to offer prayers and appeal for justice for Daguinsin. The Dasmariñas CPS, meanwhile, had set up police checkpoints within the city and has coordinated with barangay officials to deploy additional patrollers for heightened security.
