Gatchalian says he has low chance of contracting COVID-19

Nancy (Binay) and I didn't shake the hands or have any encounter with (the resource person) during and after the hearing," Gatchalian said. Both Gatchalian and Binay decided to go on self-quarantine and have themselves tested for COVID-19 following the information. But according to Gatchalian, the footage also showed they were situated far from the Senate guest. "We (were) also quite far away (estimate of five meters) from him. So (there's a) low chance of contracting the virus," he added. Nevertheless, he said, the Senate has been doing contact-tracing for all those who attended the hearing of the education committee last March 5. But those who were seated near the resource person have not been showing any symptoms of COVID-19. The senator said he is still getting a COVID -19 test. "I'm getting tested today. I hope that within 48 hours there would be results already." Senate President Vicente Sotto III has placed the Senate under restrictive access following the incident.
