Gatchalian said that upon hearing Health Secretary Francisco Duque III’s pronouncement over a DZMM radio interview, he is now ending his self-quarantine.
“After submitting myself to a COVID-19 test last Friday, I’m happy to hear the pronouncements made by Health Secretary Francisco Duque over DZMM Teleradyo just this morning that I tested negative for the disease. Thus, I’m ending my self-quarantine,” Gatchalian said.
“Having surpassed this, rest assured that my office will continue to function pursuant to the guidelines and protocols set for enhanced community quarantine,” the senator added.
The lawmaker stressed there’s a lot of work to be done especially in the middle of this crisis while the number of infected cases continues to rise.
“We must pool our resources together to fight this dreaded virus. Hinihikayat ko po ang lahat na sumunod sa mga panuntunan na inilatag ng ating gobyerno para hindi na lumobo ang bilang ng mga kaso ng COVID-19 (I’m encouraging everyone to follow the rules laid out by the government so the cases of COVID-19 will not increase),” he said.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the team of the Department of Health who facilitated the test,” Gatchalian said.
Binay, whom Duque also said tested negative for COVID-19, has yet to issue a statement.
Both senators volunteered to go on self-quarantine after a resource person during a March 5 hearing of the Senate committee on basic education, arts and culture, which Gatchalian chairs, tested positive for COVID-19 and was in critical condition.
The resource person’s wife, according to Zubiri, died of the disease. Zubiri, on the other hand, announced on Monday that he tested positive for COVID-19 and will do enhanced quarantine procedures.
