Embassies abroad log 9,754 cases of COVID-19 among Filipinos

Cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) infections among Filipinos abroad increased again on Sunday following the 39 new confirmed cases recorded by Philippine embassies and consulates in two countries in the Americas and the Middle East/Africa.

With the addition of the new cases, the number of overseas Filipinos afflicted with coronavirus is now 9,754, the latest Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) tally showed.

“No new fatalities due to COVID-19 were recorded today among our people abroad,” the DFA said in the report.

Of the total, 5,783 have recovered, 3,263 are live cases, and 708 fatalities.

The Middle East/Africa remains the region with the biggest number of Filipinos with COVID-19 cases and deaths at 6,849 and 430, respectively.

Amid the pandemic, the DFA continues to pursue its objective of bringing home stranded and distressed Filipinos from all over the world. As of August 8, 2020, it has repatriated over 124,700 land-based and sea-based overseas Filipinos.

“As the DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts, remains steadfast in promoting and protecting the welfare of our fellow Filipinos amid this pandemic, repatriation efforts for our stranded nationals and those who wish to return home will continue,” the department said.
