Eastern Visayas posts highest single day increase in COVID-19 cases with 75
TACLOBAN City - The Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas has reported the highest number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients in a single day with 75 fresh cases on Friday, August 14.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 1,539, with 540 active cases, and a 64.52-percent recovery rate in the region.
The Eastern Visayas Regional COVID Testing Center (EVRCTC) confirmed that 58 patients tested positive for COVID-19 out of 391 laboratory results.
The 58 new cases included 21 locally stranded individuals (LSIs), three health workers, and one returning overseas Filipino workers.
Samar had the highest number of new cases with 27 cases. Basey had nine new cases, wherein all are close contacts of the earlier reported cases in Barangay Villa Aurora, which now has a total of 50 cases. The municipality has logged a total of 79 COVID-19 cases.
Catbalogan City had nine new cases, followed by Villareal town with eight, and Calbayog City with one case.
Leyte province had 14 new cases, with three coming from Tacloban City and Palompon; two from Alangalang and Julita; and one each from Burauen, Hilongos, Palo, and Tanauan.
Southern Leyte reported 13 fresh cases, four from Bontoc; two each from the municipalities of San Francisco, Liloan, and Hinunangan; and one each from San Juan, Malitbog, and St. Bernard.
Eastern Samar province logged a total of four cases with two cases each from the municipalities of Maydolong and Balangiga.
Meanwhile, the Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory (DWHVL) has also reported 17 new cases from a total of 241 laboratory results released.
The 17 new cases are tagged as patients EV-1523 to EV-1539.
Of the 17 new cases, 16 came from Leyte and one from Eastern Samar.
