DSWD tallies over 58,000 families affected by Taal eruption

By Charissa Luci-Atienza More than 58,000 families have been affected by the Taal Volcano eruption, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has said. Based on the DSWD-Disaster Response Operations and Monitoring Information Center (DROMIC) report, 58,635 families or 230,353 individuals have been affected by the Jan. 12 phreatic eruption. "This number includes families that are staying inside and outside evacuation centers in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna and Quezon," according to the report posted on DSWD's official Facebook page on Monday evening. According to the DSWD-DROMIC, 36,577 families or 140,231 individuals are staying in evacuation centers, while 22,058 families or 90,122 individuals are staying outside the evacuation centers. "The DSWD, in coordination with the local social welfare and development offices, is still continuously accounting the number of families who are outside evacuation centers to ensure sufficient help is provided to all affected families," the department said. There are 491 evacuation centers in 45 local government units, with open evacuation centers in areas of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon provinces. In Batangas, evacuation centers are located in Balayan, Calaca, Calatagan, Lian, Nasugbu, Tuy, Bauan, Mabini, San Luis, San Pascual, Lobo, Balete, Cuenca, Malvar, Mataasnakahoy, Sta. Teresita, Sto. Tomas City, Tanauan City, Alitagtag, Taysan, Padre Garcia, Ibaan, San Jose, Rosario, San Juan, Batangas City, and Lipa. In Cavite, evacuation centers can be found in Dasmariñas City, Silang, Amadeo, Indang, Alfonso, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Maragondon, Mendez, Naic, Tagaytay City, and Ternate. In Laguna, evacuation centers are located in Bay, Cabuyao City, Calamba City, San Pablo, and Sta. Cruz. In Quezon, evacuation centers can be found in Dolores and San Antonio. The DSWD earlier said it has extended P7.88 million in assistance to the Taal Volcano eruption victims, and that it “continues to assist the LGUs in assessing the needs of affected residents for the provision of additional necessary assistance." The Department has assured the public that more food packs will be provided to the affected families. The DSWD-DROMIC earlier noted that the DSWD Central Office (CO), Field Offices (FOs), and Natural Resource Operations Center (NROC) have stockpiles and standby funds amounting to P916.83 million. It said the DSWD Central Office (CO) and FOs have a total of P250.13 million in standby funds. "Of the said amount, P215,140,512.28 is the available Quick Response Fund (QRF) in the CO." According to the DSWD-DROMIC, they have stockpiles of 188,594 food packs amounting to P71.886 million, and available food and non-food items amounting to P594.817 million.
