DSWD provides P3.99-M relief goods to Taal victims

(AP Photo/Aaron Favila/DSWD/MANILA BULLETIN) (AP Photo/Aaron Favila/DSWD/MANILA BULLETIN) The DSWD-Disaster Response Operations and Monitoring Information Center (DROMIC) reported that as of January 15, Wednesday, 12 noon, P3.99 million worth of relief goods have been provided to affected families "as augmentation support to the local government units." The recipient areas were Sto. Tomas City, Laurel, Tanauan City, Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas City, Balayan, Cuenca, Bauan, and San Pascual in Batangas; and Alfonso, Cavite, the DROMIC report said. The DSWD provided the following relief goods: 7,615 family food packs which contain rice, canned goods, coffee, and noodles; 6,060 ready-to-eat food; and 3,580 plastic mats. The DSWD announced that it has yet to distribute 9,000 family food packs worth about P3.67 million. "Other than these relief goods already provided to the affected families as per request of local government units, the DSWD has more than 9,000 family food packs amounting to P 3.67 million ready for distribution," it said in a post on its official Facebook page. The Department assured the more food packs will be provided to the victims. "The repacking of additional food packs is still ongoing at the Field Office's warehouse in GMA, Cavite," it said. On Wednesday, January 15, DSWD Undersecretary Camilo Gudmalin turned over 1,338 family food packs to the local government of Balayan, Batangas. The relief goods were delivered in Sampaga Elementary School, which serves as one of the evacuation centers housing affected families from the towns of Taal, Lemery, Agoncillo and Laurel. "These family food packs are for distribution to at least 1,300 affected families inside and outside evacuation centers in Balayan," the DSWD said. In a nine-page report on January 15, Wednesday, DSWD-DROMIC disclosed that a total of P3,917, 931.10 was provided by the DSWD to the affected families, bulk of which was given to Batangas. Of the amount, P3.736 million was given to Batangas province, benefitting cities of Batangas and Tanauan, and seven municipalities. While, a total of P181, 781.48 was provided to Alfonso, Cavite. The DSWD-DROMIC noted that the DSWD Central Office (CO) , Field Offices (FOs), and Natural Resource Operations Center (NROC) have stockpiles and standby funds amounting to P916.83 million. It said the DSWD Central Office (CO) and FOs has a total of P250,130,936.99 standby funds. "Of the said amount, P215, 140,512.28 is the available Quick Response Fund (QRF) in the CO, " it said. According to the DSWD-DROMIC, they have stockpiles of 188, 594 food packs amounting to P71.886 million, and available food and non-food items amounting to P594.817 million. As of 6 a.m. of January 15, the number of affected families and persons by the Taal Volcano eruption increased to 12, 059 families or 53, 187 persons. In its report last January 13, there were 4,960 families or 21,937 persons from CALABARZON Region who were affected by the volcanic eruption. The DSWD-DROMIC reported that there are 10,000 families or 43, 681 persons taking temporary shelter in 217 evacuation centers in CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) .
