DSWD assures 'necessary' assistance to Quezon City government

(MANILA BULLETIN) DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista gave in to the request of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte who earlier appealed to the national government and DSWD to step in and assist her city government to provide food to those who cannot work due to the ECQ from April 6 to April 12. " DSWD will provide the necessary support to QC during the requested period," he said in a Viber message posted by DSWD Spokesperson Irene Dumlao. Belmonte earlier said that by the fourth week of the ECQ, the city government's funds "will be insufficient." Quezon City has recorded 29 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Bautista earlier assured the public that the government has enough funds to sustain the distribution of food packs in Metro Manila and in other areas of Luzon. He said the DSWD Central Office has a standby quick response fund (QRF) amounting to P1.3 billion, which can be tapped, as well as the local government units' respective QRFs. He said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has assured them that once they fully utilize the QRF, they can immediately request for additional funding to purchase the materials for the family food packs. Bautista earlier said the DSWD will not only extend family food packs, but also cash emergency assistance to the marginalized and poor communities. He said the budget for the cash emergency assistance will be requested from the DBM.
