DOH: Those who resist quarantine face sanctions

By Marjaleen Ramos Those who will resist undergoing quarantine will face sanctions, the Department of Health warned on Monday. "Yung mga tao hindi na pwede umalma. Kapag kinakailangan na iyong indibidwal ay ma-quarantine, ay hindi dapat aalma dahil ito ay para sa kabutihan ng lipunan... upang maiwasan, mapigilan ang pagkalat,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV. Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire also said no one has the right to refuse to undergo quarantine during a state of public health emergency. "'Yung mga nag-rerefuse hong mag-quarantine, wala na silang karapatang mag-refuse ngayon," Vergeire said. "May mga karampatang sanctions po kapagka ganito. Meron tayong mga protocols," she added. Vergeire said the state of public health emergency will give the government more authority when it comes to this kind of procedure. President Duterte has reportedly signed on Monday the Executive Order declaring a State of Public Health Emergency following the resurgence of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country and the confirmation of its local transmission. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is now at 10.
