Diocese of Paranaque suspends public masses for 2 weeks

In support of the call for a time-out made by the country’s front liners, the Diocese of Paranaque announced the suspension of public masses in parishes under its jurisdiction from today, August 3, until August 14.

Parañaque Bishop Jesse Mercado said the two-week suspension of public masses is in support of the front liners’ call to revert the country’s status back to the enhanced community quarantine due to the continued rise in COVID-19 cases.

“The faithful may join the holy masses online through live streaming,” Mercado said over Church-run Radio Veritas. The diocese has a population of more than 1.4 million Roman Catholics.

The parishes under the Diocese of Parañaque are set to hold novena masses for the 395^th anniversary of the installation and feast of the city’s revered patroness, the Nuestra Señora del Buen Suceso on August 10. The masses will be streamed live from the Facebook page of the Cathedral Parish of St. Andrew and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Parañaque.

Archdiocese of Manila Apostolic Administrator Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo and Diocese of Cubao Bishop Honesto F. Ongtioco, earlier, announced the suspension of public masses in their dioceses from August 3 to 14 as an expression of support to the call made by the country’s front liners.
