The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday reported a “modest spike” in the number of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases among Filipinos abroad with the addition of 65 new confirmed cases and seven new fatalities.

In its latest report, the DFA said the new cases were recorded
in Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and Middle East/ Africa while the new fatalities were in Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East/African regions, respectively.
To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos is 9,692. Of this, 5,737 have recovered, 3,253 are undergoing treatment, and 702 died.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Beirut is conducting an assessment of the situation in the Lebanese capital following the powerful explosions that killed more than 100 people and injured thousands of others, including Filipinos.
On Wednesday, Chargé d’Affaires Ajeet Panemanglor visited a group of Filipino seafarers earlier reported missing but were found to be safe and secure under the care of their employer in Beirut.
Two Filipino domestic helpers died while a total of 24 others were injured in the twin blasts.
Panemanglor said the process of repatriating the remains of the two fatalities will be immediately conducted as soon as the Lebanese government reopens. Lebanon has declared a National Day of Mourning following the tragic incident.
