LEGAZPI CITY, Albay - The Department of Education (DepEd) regional office here issued a memorandum on Monday, suspending indefinitely the "Palarong Bicol" which was scheduled March 22 to 29.
The regional memorandum number 31, series 2020 included the postponement of the division concentration trainings of the athletes.
"Pursuant to the DepEd Memorandum No. 034, s. 2020 dated 09 March 2020, signed by Secretary Leonor M. Briones on the Fifth Set of Policy Directives of DepEd Task Force COVID-19 to ensure hightened precautioned in light of the recent developments with the DOH raising the COVID-19 Alert System to Code Red Sublevel 1, following the confirmation of local transmission in the country and in anticipation of possible community transmission, this Office hereby suspends the conduct of the 2020 Palarong Bicol and all Division Concentration Trainings," the DepEd regional director Gilbert Sadsad said in his memorandum.
Palarong Bicol was originally scheduled in February, but due to COVID-19 threat, it was moved to March.
Sadsad also said that all regional activities involving learners and teachers requiring travel and congregation of various schools or divisions have been suspended.
The new schedule of the regional meet will be announced later, according to Sadsad.
