Creation of 4 new barangays in San Jose del Monte 'a fresh opportunity' to help people, says solon
San Jose del Monte City lone district Rep. Florida "Rida" Robes sees the establishment of four new barangays in the city as "a fresh opportunity to help her constituents", particularly its women residents.
“As a woman legislator, I also give special attention and care to the women of San Jose Del Monte, empowering them in the process," Robes said in a statement, alluding to the ongoing commemoration of National Women's Month this March.
The House leader cited one of her pet project that taps into the entrepreneurial spirit of Filipino women.
"My project Tindahan Ni Maria provides women with additional capital that will eventually give them sustainable livelihood as entrepreneurs,” said Robes, who chairs the House Committee on Good Government.
The Commision on Elections (Comelec) conducted last week a plebiscite among the 43,771 registered voters in Barangay Muzon, San Jose del Monte City in Bulacan. A total of 13,322 voters participated, equating to a 30.44 voter turnout.
Of the 13,322 voters, 12,324 or 92.51 percent voted "yes" to divide the barangay into four, namely: Barangay Muzon Proper, Barangay Muzon East, Barangay Muzon West, and Barangay Muzon South. Only 969 or 7.27 percent voted “no".
Barangay Muzon has a population of 127,506 as per a 2020 census.
“This is a step toward development in terms of delivery of basic services to the newly formed barangays,” Robes said of the breaking up of Barangay Muzon.
She said these new barangays may very well be the beneficiaries of her congressional initiative “One like for life project", which is aimed at improving the mental health of the city's youngsters.
“Students are our future leaders, our hope. As a leader, it is also my duty to make sure that their mental health is taken cared of. So we always have counselors that will be there to talk to them, to help them and to give them counsel through my 'One Like For Life project',” she said.
In tandem with her mental health care program, the lawnaker also underscored the importance of physical health. She said the “Kusina Ni Ate Rida” have been on-going for years in the city to ensure that San Joseños do not get hungry.
The lady solon's husband, San Jose del Monte City Mayor Arthur Robes, concurred that the breaking up of Barangay Muzon would improve the delivery of public service, since the barangay captains would be able to focus on serving smaller groups of people.
