COVID-19 cases in PH now at 142; one more patient recovers

By Betheena Unite Two new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were reported Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of the disease in the Philippines to 142, the Department of Health said. The 141st patient is a 63-year-old man who is currently admitted at The Medical City-Ortigas. His nationality, residence, travel history, and date of symptoms are still under validation. The 142nd patient is a 50-year-old man. Other information about this case remains under validation, the agency said. The department also reported the recovery of a patient found positive of the disease, bringing the total number of recovered patients to three. According to the latest data from the health department, the latest patient to recover is PH14, a 46-year-old Filipino male from Pasay City. He had no travel history and no known exposure to confirmed cases. He was admitted on March 5 to Makati Medical Center, and was confirmed with COVID-19 on March 9. “He tested negative twice for COVID-19 as confirmed by Makati Medical Center was and officially discharged March 15, 2020,” the department confirmed. Deaths due to the disease climbed to 12 on Sunday night after PH12, a 56-year old Filipino male from Manila City succumbed to acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to COVID-19 with pre-existing asthma. He began experiencing fever and cough on Feb. 29 and was admitted to Makati Medical Center on March 7. He was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on March 9.
