Comelec closes its offices in MECQ areas until Aug. 18

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday said their offices in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will be closed to the public.

The poll body said these offices are in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, the National Capital Region and Region IV-A.

In an advisory, the Comelec said the issuance of voter's certification in these offices is also temporarily suspended.

"Issuance is temporarily suspended in the above offices for the duration of the MECQ from August 4 to 18, 2020," it read.

"Likewise, issuance in the main office, the Election Records and Statistics Department (ERSD) and Office for Overseas Voting (OFOV), is temporarily suspended," it further read.

The Comelec said those who have inquiries may send an email to the said offices.

On Monday, the Comelec announced that its main office as well as the Offices of the Regional Election Director (ORED) of the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa, which are all in Intramuros, Manila will undergo extensive disinfection and decontamination from August 3 to 16.

It added that all Comelec officers and employees from the concerned offices will be performing their functions on a work-from-home basis.

President Duterte placedÂ Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and RizalÂ under MECQ from August 4 to 18 in response to the call of medical frontliners for a "time out" amid the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
