The PCG said it will intensify its "comprehensive inspection" on all foreign vessels entering major ports across the country. It added that the measure is in coordination with the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ).
"They ensure the implementation of stricter screening and safety measures to prevent the entry and possible spread of the new strain of coronavirus in the Philippines,” said PCG Commandant Admiral Joel Garcia in a statement. " in adherence to the directive of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade."
The BOQ was also directed by the Department of Health (DOH) to intensify its checking of all incoming travelers, particularly those manifesting fever or signs of respiratory infection.
The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) also suspended all flights from Wuhan, China to the Philippines. The new virus appeared to have originated in that Chinese city.
