Catholic prelate tests positive for COVID

Another Catholic prelate has tested positive for COVID-19.

Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David on Sunday announced that his predecessor Bishop Deogracias IÃ±iguez tested positive for the disease.

"I announced it at Mass today so people could join us in praying for his recovery," he said in an interview.

David said IÃ±iguez is currently in a hospital under isolation.

Iniguez, the first bishop of Caloocan, resigned at the age of 72 in 2013 before the mandated retirement age of 75.

Then Pope Benedict XVI accepted the resignation of IÃ±iguez.

Last July 23, Bishop Broderick Pabillo, apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila, informed priests that he tested positive for COVID-19.

The prelate said although he doesn't feel anything, he is now in a designated area for quarantine.

"I follow the protocol that is set. I am now in a designated area for quarantine observing strict protocol as required," said Pabillo.

The prelate said Sunday that he is now COVID-free.

"I thank all of you for continuously praying for me. I truly feel your prayers and I don't feel any symptoms," said Pabillo in a prepared homily read by Fr. Carmelo Jek Arada during a Mass at the Manila Cathedral in Manila.

"By God's grace, I am now COVID-free based on my second swab test this week. Your prayers are really powerful. Next week we will be together again in Mass," he added.
