VIRAC, Catanduanes – Acting Governor Shirley A. Araojo has ordered a lockdown in terms of allowing non-residents and tourists into the province, and underscored that only residents will be allowed to return to their homes, provided that they subject themselves to 14-day mandatory quarantine.
Araojo signed the executive order, effective Saturday, March 14, which established “strict measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) in the Province of Catanduanes".
The guidelines were approved by Abundo as recommended by the provincial disaster risk reduction management council after a series of meetings.
Under the EO, no visitors or tourists will be allowed to enter the province.
Only residents will be permitted travel to Catanduanes from Tabaco Port, and will be subjected to a 14-day mandatory quarantine starting from the day they arrive.
Persons who qualify as persons under monitoring (PUMs) are directed to self-monitor and reports by the Barangay Health Emergency Team (BHET) should be done for validation and further instruction.
Local governement units (LGUs) have also been directed to strictly comply with the prohibition on gathering for Holy Mass, and the observance of social distancing which should be observed with a one meter or three feet apart rule from one person to another.
Graduation rites which are about to be conducted few weeks from today will depend on the Department of Educations guidleines in consultation with the Department of Health. Students are also advised to stay at home after classes and avoid going to public places.
This week, environmental cleaning and disinfection were undertaken.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has started disinfecting the provincial capitol Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, San Andres and Virac ports remain open and will continue to operate, while Virac Airport had its last flight yesterday from Cebu Pacific.
The airport caters only to Manila-Virac-Manila flights Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Cancellation of flights in Bicol has been made since last night.
