BUTUAN CITY – The regional office of the Department of Health (DOH) disclosed on Thursday afternoon that the patient quarantined by a hospital in Caraga region for possible coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection has tested negative for the disease.

DOH 13 Regional Spokesperson Romelyn Torralba further disclosed that the results from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) showed that the tests done on respiratory samples from the person, classified as Caraga’s first patient under investigation (PUI) turned out negative.
“Yes, the patient is clear from this dreaded disease,” response of the DOH 13 spokesperson, during press forum in one of the hotel’s function room here late Thursday afternoon.
She said the patient had completed the quarantine and isolation period with no signs of respiratory infection and for hospital discharge.
The DOH 13 spokesperson also disclosed that 38 persons have been placed under monitoring (PUMs), and 12 of them are under close monitoring while the rest already cleared from the COVID 19.
“Twenty-six of these PUMs are already cleared,” Torralba said.
“There was still no confirmed Covid-19 case in Caraga region,” stressed the DOH 13 spokesperson.
In behalf of the DOH 13 Regional Director Dr. Jose R. Llacuna, Jr., the Caraga health spokesperson urged Caraganons to observe preventive measures, including thorough washing of hands and covering the nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing and keeping healthy habits to boost the immune system to save oneself from coronavirus infection.
She emphasized that COVID-19 has no vaccine or treatment yet, “but proper personal hygiene is very important to prevent from getting infected”.
The DOH 13 spokesperson advised those with flu-like symptoms to immediately consult health personnel in government hospitals in the region designated as referral centers to admit and examine people suspected of being infected with coronavirus disease.
The regional office of DOH 13 assured the public that health and quarantine personnel are doing everything to prevent the spread of the disease.
