(MANILA BULLETIN) In a press briefing in Malacañang, Rosario Padilla, head revenue executive assistant of the BIR Collection Service, said the move was made to allow taxpayers to transact from their homes. "You can actually pay your tax dues using different payment channels --- Paymaya, LBP link, and G-cash," she said. "Hindi na kailangang papuntahin ang taxpayers or pumila sa bangko (There's no need to ask taxpayers to come to the BIR offices or line up in banks)," she added. Padilla said there are no plans yet to extend the April 15 deadline on the filing of ITRs because of the threat of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). She reminded the public to comply with the deadline to avoid payment of 25 percent surcharge on late filing and 12 percent interest. She added that the BIR will open assistance centers on March 28 to April 15, including Saturdays, in all revenue district services for ITR filers. Authorized agent banks will likewise extend operations until 5 p.m. from April 1 to 15. According to Padilla, the BIR collected a total of P2.186 trillion in 2019.
