Baste Duterte voluntarily undergoes home quarantine

DAVAO CITY – Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has voluntarily submitted himself to a 14-day home quarantine after manifesting symptoms of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), his elder sister Mayor Sara Duterte said. In an interview during the Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) 87.5 on Monday, the presidential daughter said the vice mayor has been in “self-isolation” away from his family after suffering from sore throat, cough, and fever, and is now listed as a “person under monitoring.”

She said her brother had come from Manila three weeks ago.

But the mayor said she did not advise the vice mayor, the youngest son of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, to undergo testing since he visited Manila three weeks ago, more than the 14-day incubation period of the coronavirus disease. “Giingnan nko sya dili na lang mag apil apil anang testing kay kulang atong testing kit (I told him to not submit himself to testing since we lack testing kits),” she said. The vice mayor was also suspected of suffering from tonsillitis, she said. “Hopefully, kini kay Vice Mayor Baste dali lang mag ka tonsillitis. Mao na iyang recurrent na sakit (Hopefully Vice Mayor Baste is only suffering from tonsillitis, this is his recurring ailment),” she added.
