COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG) of the interim Bangsamoro autonomous government announced Thursday that its minister, lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, started going into self-quarantine for fear of having contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in his recent meetings in Metro Manila.

“Although Minister Sinarimbo feels well and does not have any flu-like symptoms, he opted for self-quarantine since he had a brief meeting with Senator (Sherwin) Gatchalian and other personnel at the Senate last Tuesday,” the MILG said in a statement sent to The Manila Bulletin.
Sinarimbo, also a regional spokesman, attended the joint meeting of the Senate committees on Finance and Local Government on March 10 pursuant to a resolution filed earlier by Senator Ralph Recto urging the higher chamber of Congress to get abreast with the implementation of R.A. 11054, also known as the organic law of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The MILG echoed news reports that Senators Gatchalian and Nancy Binay declared on Wednesday “to undergo voluntary quarantine after interacting with a resource person during the (Senate) Committee Hearing on Education last March 5 who tested positive for COVID-19.”
Sinarimbo, contacted by the Bulletin over the phone Thursday, emphasized that he was “certainly well without any sign of symptom” and “would like to avoid endangering his staff and visitors unduly.”
The MILG is one of BARMM ministries registering the most number of daily visitors coming from the component areas of the autonomous region.
But he quickly added that self-quarantine will not cause any operation vacuum in his agency because “I interact with my staff from time to time via teleconference calls” from his unspecified area of confinement.
Sinarimbo enjoined his staff to “take precautionary measures by constantly disinfecting office equipment and to make available thermal scanners and disinfectants at the entry points (of the MILG building in this city.)”
He also appealed to the public, particularly the BARMM constituents to “remain calm and abide by the protocols set by authorities” under the state of national health emergency declared by the President last March 8.
BARMM authorities including Health Minister Zafrullah Dipatuan have declared a "red alert" among their constituents in relation to the proclamation, though pointing out that the autonomous region remains "COVID-19 free."
