BARMM recovery rate from COVID-19 continues to improve – health minister

COTABATO CITY – The recovery rate for those afflicted with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) continues to improve, a health official said Monday.

BARMM Health Minister Dr. Saffrullah Dipatuan said the recovery rate for COVID-19 cases in the region has improved from 31 percent on Saturday, to 34 percent on Sunday with the 20 more reported cases of recoveries.

As of Sunday, the Ministry of Health (MOH-BARMM) recorded 19 new cases with one fatality, raising the death toll to nine.

It was also reported that a total of 153 persons have survived the virus out of 448 confirmed COVID-19 patients in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Dipatuan said while the number of positive patients continues to rise, the recovery rate was also improving.

“This is good, this will give us encouragement to further improve our efforts,” he said referring to the commendable job of COVID-19 health front-liners.

Of the total 448 confirmed COVID-19 positive, 286 are currently admitted in various hospitals and isolation centers.

The latest fatality from Tawi-Tawi was a locally stranded individual (LSI). Lanao del Sur and Marawi City, which were constantly tops among the five provinces with high COVID-19 cases, had no new case as of Sunday.

Of the 19 new cases, 16 were posted in Basilan and Lamitan City; two in Tawi-Tawi; and one in Maguindanao.

On Saturday, the region reported six new confirmed cases, raising the region’s total number positives to 429 with 133 recoveries or 31 percent rate.

Dipatuan has also lauded a separate group of health front-liners who now work as “bakunadors” (vaccinators) for the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” across the region.
