Baguio in 'second wave' of COVID-19 crisis – Magalong

BAGUIO CITY – The city's tally of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases went beyond the century mark on Wednesday, July 29, after chalking up three more cases, bringing the total to 103 confirmed cases – or 50 active,51 recoveries and two deaths.

City Health Services Office said the three new cases were a 35-year-old male with address still being validated; a 25-year-old male from San Carlos Heights, and a 23-year-old female from Avelino St., Barangay Andres Bonifacio.

City Mayor Benjie Magalong reminded the public to adhere to minimum health protocols to protect themselves from the virus, such as the proper wearing of facemask, social distancing and observance of proper hygiene.

Magalong imposed adjusted measures in response to the drastic increase in cases in the past days which he said can be considered as a "second wave" of virus affliction in the city.

He ordered the implementation of stricter border control wherein only essential and necessary travel is allowed, re-implementation of Sunday lockdown in the city and closure of the Baguio City Public Market every Sunday effective August 2 for disinfection measures in all establishments and the imposing of liquor ban effective July 27.

Magalong said all cases were a result of expanded risk-based testing which the city has been conducting among the vulnerable sectors.

“Although we have had an increase of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the city, we are completely prepared and capacitated with adequate testing and isolation facilities for our constituents,” Magalong said.
