BACOLOD CITY - Mass gatherings and public events involving a large number of attendees here have been ordered suspended until further notice.

(GLAZYL MASCULINO / MANILA BULLETIN) Mayor Evelio Leonardia issued Executive Order No. 18 on March 14, ordering the suspension due to the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-2019) in the country. Included in the suspension are social events such as fiestas and prayer rallies, school activities or gatherings (public and private), sports, amusement, entertainment programs that draw large crowds. Recognizing the need for containment measures, and the necessity of maintaining social or personal distancing to prevent the transmission of COVID-19, Leonardia cited in the order that the Department of Health (DOH) had previously issued an advisory on concerts and other public events and gatherings to avoid attending, participating in, and organizing events that draw huge number of attendees. Leonardia said in the order that it was the intention of the city government would want to undertake major preventive measure to protect its citizens from possible exposure to carriers or sources of the COVID-19. As of March 12, Bacolod has three persons under investigation (PUIs), and 19 persons under monitoring (PUMs) for suspected infection of COVID-19.
