Davao del Norte 1st district Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez thinks it's high time to take his campaign to legalize cannabis or marijuana on a national public consultation tour.

Alvarez, a former House Speaker, took to Facebook Wednesday, March 29 to announce the conduct of the National Marijuana Consultation Tour, which will take place from April 6 to 10.

"Malapit na malapit na mga ka-#HighTime! (It's very near, fellow high-timers!)" Alvarez wrote.

Also Iicluded in his post were the hashtags #LegalizeCannabis, #MedicalCannabis, #LetCannabisBeLegal, #SupportMedicalCannabis, #HealingWithCannabis, and #DecriminalizeCannabis, which just about explain his reasons for seeking the legalization of marijuana.

"Iikutin ko ang buong Pilipinas, kokonsultahin ko yung mga tao kung gusto ba nila na ipagpatuloy ng gobyerno na alisin na sa listahan ng prohibited drugs ang marijuana (I will tour the entire Philippines, I will consult with the people and ask them if they want government to push through with the removal of marijuana on the list of prohibited drugs)," he said.

Alvarez is the author of House Bill (HB) No.6783, which aims to amend Republic Act (RA) No.9165 or to Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The ammendment will de-list cannabis, cannabis resin and extracts, and tinctures of cannabis as an illegal substance.

The measure is under technical working group (TWG) discussion with  the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs.

Alvarez said in an earlier hearing of the committee that he was only seeking the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes, and not its recreational use.

"Ang inyong suporta ang magsisilbing lakas sa ating ipinaglalaban! Atin pang ingayan upang marinig pa tayo ng ating mga kababayan! (Your support will sustain our campaign! Let us raise voices to be heard by our countrymen!)" the solon further wrote.
