Appeal of frontliners for NCR ECQ stressed

The appeal of healthcare workers to place the National Capital Region under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) anew aims to come up with a better strategy against the COVID-19 pandemic and not for them to go "out of town," an officer of the Filipino Nurses United (FNU) said Sunday.

“Kailangan natin yung dalawang linggo hindi para magpahinga kami at mag-out of town. makapagpahinga kami, mag-isip ng maayos, at makarecover 'yung mga empleyado namin na hindi makapasok para po hindi lumala lalo yung understaffing ,” said FNU officer Jaymee de Guzman in response to some government officials dismissing the call of healthcare workers.

“Ang nakakainis po na nakakatawa na 'yung panawagan na ito ay sinasagot pa ng mga ibang pulitiko na parang baka kailangan namin na mas maging pursigido sa trabaho. 'Yung iba naman parang pinapalabas na kaya gusto namin dahil tinatamad kami. Hindi po iyon ang punto dito. Ang punto po ay nagkakasakit na rin po kami ,” she said.

De Guzman is hoping that the government would understand the current situation of the healthcare workers.

“Ayun po ay para mabigyan kami ng sapat na panahon...Kasi kung naka ECQ ang mga tao, mababawasan po yung lalabas, mababawasan yung mahahawahan ,” she said.

Sen. Cynthia Villar has opposed the call of the medical community to put NCR in the strictest community quarantine measure, urging the healthcare workers to work harder in time of the pandemic.

"Hindi na siguro, pagbutihin nila trabaho nila. Hindi pwedeng isara ang ekonomiya kasi kung 'di naman mamamatay sa COVID, mamamatay naman gutom ang mga tao ,” she said.
