The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) urged establishments affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak to adopt a flexible work arrangement in a bid to save jobs.

“That is what we are appealing... flexible work arrangement to be adopted as an alternative measure just to save jobs,” DOLE Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay said in an interview Tuesday.
The appeal was made after the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines had earlier revealed that a minimum of 7,000 workers working in airlines, cruise ships, travel agencies, and hotel and restaurants are expected to be laid off within the next six months as more enterprises are forced to implement retrenchments programs to cope with the business losses caused by the growing COVID-19 outbreak crisis worldwide.
Tutay revealed that a number of companies have already notified DOLE that they are now adopting the flexible work arrangement.
“So far 35 establishments have resorted to flexible work arrangements involving 3,255 workers,” said Tutay.
She said these establishments are located in Regions 6, 7, and 12.
“It’s tourism-related,” said Tutay.
Under such scheme, there is reduced work days, rotation, and working hours.
