9 Filipino cruise ship repatriates show signs of respiratory illness; 7 test negative for COVID-19

Nine Filipinos repatriated from the M/V Diamond Princess cruise ship have shown symptoms of respiratory illness while in quarantine at the Athlete’s Village in New Clark City (NCC) in Capas, Tarlac, an official of the Department of Health (DOH) bared on Saturday.

Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire noted that seven of them have already tested negative for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), while the test results of two others are still pending.
Vergeire told Manila Bulletin in a text message that the test results of the two repatriates are expected to come out within 24 to 48 hours. The two individuals manifested sore throat.
Eight of the repatriates experienced sore throat, while the other one has a "non-productive cough."
To note, 445 Filipinos were repatriated from the M/V Diamond Princess cruise ship last Tuesday, February 25. They are currently quarantined in NCC, together with the 13 others who are members of the Philippine repatriation team, bringing the total of persons under quarantine to 458.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said last Friday that necessary measures are being observed to ensure the health and safety of the repatriates.
“We assure the public that our referral hospitals are well-equipped and prepared to handle COVID-19 cases once they arise. Our health response team at the quarantine facility is being extra cautious to prevent further health risks,” he said.
